Edith Layton Dies 6/2/09

by Cybil Solyn

June 2009

I think we've all experienced the sadness of reaching the end of a good book. That moment after we turn the last page and realize that we have to say goodbye to the characters we've grown to love. This is the same feeling I experienced a moment ago when I saw on Facebook that Edith Layton had passed away this morning after a battle with ovarian cancer. The news seems unreal to me, and yet I feel the loss of a beloved writer as well as the loss of many stories left untold.

Edith Layton wrote the books I grew up with. She was one of the first authors to support Rakehell.com, and her books have always held a special place on my Keeper shelf. To know that I won't ever get another email from her, or read another love story by her...it breaks my heart. I'm glad that I knew her, and I know I'm not the only fan who mourns her passing.

Layton will have a tribute on the Word Wenches blog which she blogged on. Be sure to stop by tomorrow June 3rd, 2009 to pay your respects. The Regency community has lost one of its great authors. She'll be missed.
